Jonathan Janson
Jonathan Janson is a painter and independent art historian. He graduated from RISD in 1972 and has lived and worked in Rome, Italy since then. He is the director of Essential Vermeer website, a reference point for international Vermeer study as well as an introduction to neophytes to the life and art of Johannes Vermeer. He has authored other websites include Girl with a Pearl Earring.
He has written Looking Over Vermeer’s Shoulder which explores the intimate relationship between painting technique and artistic expression, based on the painter’s how-to manual, How to Paint Your Own Vermeer: Materials and Methods of a Seventeenth-Century Master.
