How Los Angeles almost got two Vermeers, but didn’t

Dragnetting for Vermeer, I just came up with a very interesting article on the L. A. Times about how the city almost, but didn’t quite get two Vermeers: the Woman with a Lute (now in the MET) and the Woman Seated at the Virginals ( now in the hands of a New York private collector).
